Spectrum Analysis Tool
Spectrum Analysis Tool is a software application created in Max that can be used for configuring listening spaces. It offers a number of different selections for sound sources that are helpful when setting up a sound system.
Here is the screenshot of the code in Max:
In the following image you can see the final interface of the application. Users can select a range of sound sources according to their need or preference. The available sound sources, found in panel A, include:
- Sine Waves – This option can be used in combination with the panel C settings, which include 32 independent sine wave frequencies (from 20Hz to 20kHz).
- Sweep – With the use of panel D the user can set a specific sine frequency across the sound spectrum, creating a sweeping frequency range during a specific amount of time.
- White Noise / Pink Noise – These two options provide noise sources (all frequencies across audible range); pink noise is filtered noise that is more likely to be found on biological systems.
- Audio In – This option allows the use of audio source connected to the computer’s input (Line In, or Microphone),
- Sampler – Finally, the system accepts the use of uncompressed audio files (.wav, .aiff). Settings for the Sampler are found on panel E, including a filter with options for filter type, gain, and resonance.
In Panel B users can set the main audio settings of the application (mixer), and also to set the audio settings of the system. The Spectrum Analyzer on panel F visualizes the main sound activity of the output.
