Automatik – Workshop
17th December 2018, University of Plymouth (UK)
This workshop, organised by i-DAT, included talks, presentations, and practical sessions related to the topic of automation, exploring key aspects of the UK’s Industrial Strategy. The aim of the workshop was to enlighten participants to contemporary issues of Automation, allow a hands-on experience of AI and robotic systems, and provide insights on how these processes can inform individual research practice.
In more detail, there was included an introduction and practical implementation of a conversational AI agent, presentation of a currently available commercial robotic platform (Softbank’s Pepper robot), and practical development of robotic systems with the Lego NXT teaching toolkit that allowed participants to build moving and sensing embodied entities.
The workshop was part of the South West Creative Technology Network, a £6.5 million project aimed to expand the use of creative technologies across the south west of England. The network is offering three one-year funded programmes around the themes of Immersion, Automation and Data.
